Low FODMAP Banana Bread
SIBO Diet Friendly
Luckily one of the sweetest foods that can be consumed while on the SIBO diet are bananas! Bananas are so versatile and can be eaten in so many ways but when it comes to baking it can be a great way to add sweetness to a recipe. The combination of banana and nut butter result in a moist banana bread similar to recipes that have yogurt added to them.
Once it’s fully cooked and cooled the moist, dense bread is a great dessert recipe to have on hand if you have SIBO during holiday’s or birthdays…or for those days that you just feel like you need a little sweeter pick me up!
SIBO Diet and Low FODMAP Banana Bread
This recipe is flour free which I know may sound odd at first for a bread recipe but once you try it it’s almost hard to believe there’s no flour in it! The combination of nut butter, banana and eggs is super simple and when eaten in moderation is acceptable on the SIBO diet.
The key for staying within SIBO diet guidelines in the amount eaten during one sitting. As it’s sweetened with honey, eating too much in one sitting will feed support growth of SIBO bacteria. A 1-inch slice from a standard loaf pan generally will have a small enough proportion of nuts, honey and bananas to not lead to bloating, however every body is different so if you find that amount results in some bloating, you may want to reduce the piece size or eat it with a meal that has ingredients that are lower in FODMAP’s.

Recipe- SIBO Banana Bread:
3 ripe bananas
1 cup of SIBO friendly nut butter (almond, macadamia, pumpkin seed, sunflower seed)
2 eggs
1 tsp baking powder
1 tsp vanilla
1/4 cup of honey
1/3 cup of sugar & dairy free chocolate chips (optional) [I like Camino brand]
Unbleached parchment paper
Loaf pan (appx. 9in x 5 in)
Directions:
Turn the oven to 400F to preheat and add the parchment paper to a loaf pan. While it’s heating, add all the above ingredients except for the chocolate chips into a blender. Blend until smooth.
Pour into the loaf pan lined with parchment paper. Fold in the chocolate chips with a spoon and mix until spread through.
Place the pan in the oven and bake for approximately 45 min or until the edges start to brown. The middle will be more moist than a flour based recipe even when cooked.
Remove from the oven and let cool fully before eating. Measure out appx. 1 inch thick slices, which is in line with allowed SIBO diet portions. Enjoy!
